Jeju City, located in the north of Jeju island with Mt. Halla and in the south in border with Seogwipo, is an administrative city of Jeju Special Self-governing Province with rural and urban areas and great development potential, and a hub of Northeast Asia which is about to move forward to the ocean. The city is 96 miles away from Mokpo (Chuja-myeon - Mokpo: 63 miles) and 169 miles away from Busan. It borders with East China Sea in the west and 150 miles away from the Island of Tsushima in the east. The total area of Jeju city is 977.7§´, which is corresponding to 52.9% of the gross area of Jeju self-governing province (1,848.2§´). Within the total dimension, forest area occupies 462.2§´ (47.5%), farmland area 276.81§´ (28.3%) and the rest counts for 238.69§´ (24.2%). As of December, 2006, it has the population of 405,819 with 150,379 households and is divided into 4 towns, 3 subcounties and 19 dongs.
As of Dec., 2005, the number of companies registered in Jeju was 43,305 With 171,844 employees. In terms of business types, tourism-related industries are well developed. In 2006 alone, Jeju¡¯s trade volume amounted to US$273 Mil. With US$42 Mil. in export and US$231 Mil., in imports.

In the meantime, Jeju city, relatively isolated from the rest of the world, has scenic beaches, cliffs and caves lied in harmony. Mild weather and unique tradition make Jeju an even more ideal tourist destination. Mt. Halla in Jeju Island has flora and fauna of both temperate and tropical varieties, coexisting on the mountain. Seasonal recreation spots, Dokaebi Street and Gwaneum Temple are of the more famous attractions.

Jeju is widely known as the city of four seasons¡¯ festivals and sightseeing & events; In the spring, Jeju holds the Cherry Blossom Festival and Canola Blossom Festival on March, and April, respectively. One of the key festivals offered during summer is the Jeju Marathon Competition, which is held on a fantastic marathon course through the beautifully synchronized scenery of Jeju Coast. In the fall, there are Jeju Horse Festival and Tamra Culture Festival.

One of the key festivals offered during autumn is the Chosun Ilbo Chuncheon Marathon Competition, which is held on a fantastic marathon course through the beautifully synchronized scenery of Uiam Lake, and the Soyang Festival. Jeju holds the National Ice Sports Competition during the winter, to regain the fame as the home town of ice sports in 1960's.

Jeju city as a core city of Jeju Free International City aims to lift itself into an environment-friendly tourist city and multi-functional city composed of various businesses.
