Located in the southernmost tip of Korea, Seogwipo city holds natural resources and a well preserved environment including Mt. Halla, crystal-clear sea water, unique traditions, cultural assets, scenic beauty and abundant marine resources. It borders with Jeju city to the North and South China Sea to the South. Seogwipo has a land area equal to 870.4 square kilometers, comprising 47.1% of total area of Jeju self-governing province(1,848.2§´). Seogwipo also has 179.34km of coastline that is adjacent to South China Sea, where it has 2 inhabited island and 10 uninhabited islands. As of December, 2006, it has the population of 155,877 with 50,877 households and is divided into 3 towns, 2 subconties, and 12 dongs.
Seogwipo is a representative tour city with middle climate, which is a gift of nature. The average annual temperature is around 16.2¡ÆC, while the average temperature during the month of January is around 5.8¡ÆC and that during the month of August is around 26.2¡ÆC. The difference over the year is 20.4¡ÆC. The Seogwipo region has 1,390.6mm of rainfall on average each year with half of this falling in between the months of July to September.
